The Birmingham United Soccer Association held its’ 2008 Red Diamond Vulcan Cup Boys’ Tournament in Birmingham, AL. The Red Diamond Vulcan Cup is the Southeast's premier tournament for the month of March. The 2008 Boys’ Vulcan Cup was host to 316 teams from 14 states. Among the participants were 34 State Champions, 27 State Finalists and 37 State Semi-Finalists.
On March 1st and 2nd the 97 Boy’s Impact Nike team coached by Rex Mummey became the 2008 Champions, scoring 14 goals with only 1 scored on them. Attending this premier tournament with just enough players to participate, the 97 Boys won their first game versus the HSC Phantoms from AL 6-0. They went on to win their next two games, coming in first in the “A Bracket,” over the JFC (3-1) from MS and Vestivia Hills Steamers from AL (2-0). In the finals the 97 Boys meet another TN team, the BWSC Ingry, defeating them 3-0.

On November 17 & 18, the 97 Impact USA - Nike, coached by Rex Mummey, attended their first D2 Tennessee State Tournament in the under 11 age division. Division 2 is the highest division offered to teams 13 and under in the state of Tennessee. Under 11 is also the first time state is offered to youth soccer teams.
The u11 Impact team suffered a hard 1-0 Lose to the eventual State Champions, TNFC. In the last few minutes of the Semi-final game, the '97 TNFC Blue was rewarded a P.K. which was saved by, the keeper, Elliot A. However, the referee decided to allowed the TNFC to take the kick again which resulted in a goal.
The 97 Impact had a very sucessful season placing in all their events but one. For the 2007 Fall Season, the 97 Impact place 1st in the East Tennessee Soccer League, 2nd in the IPC Fall Challenge, losing in the Championship Game to the #21 team in the nation, ASA Xtreme (GA), and 2nd in the Nike Fall Classic, playing in the u12's highest division.

The 97 Boys Impact Nike (U11) soccer team achieved the ranking of Finalist while participating in their first tournament of the season, the Smoky Mountain Soccer Club (SMSC) Fall Classic. Facing competition from Knoxville and surrounding areas, the boys, who lost a player to injury during the prior weekend's games, were forced to play with no substitutions.
The team, playing in an older age bracket, came out victorious in their first four games. The 97 Impact Nike defeated the Knoxville Football Club Cosmos Orange 4-1, SMSC U12 Black 9-2, Middle Valley FC 96 3-0, and 97 Impact Swoosh 4-1. Nike's winning streak came to an end Sunday evening in the Championship game against the SMSC U12 Red.
The Impact Nike team is made up of players from the Knoxville, Oak Ridge and Lenoir City areas. Impact Nike will travel to Greenville, SC to participate in the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy Tournament later this month.
